My Generation!

At times when you look at the “Kids” you do wonder what the hell is wrong with them all, well before that you do wonder since when you did start calling them kids! Are we that old or just that we have aged to an extend that we just call these kids as we well are mixed up?

I don’t think we aged because we live and work in an era where we become white-collar slaves! The generation before us never did work too much as we did and the generation after us have scant regard to work and does not even treat it that seriously! Anyone born after 1986 is tough to handle at work. There are always exceptions but then the majority of them are tough to work with because the way they look at things is different!

We are the TV generation which saw the arrival of internet at lightning speed and managed to get on to it ride it all long! We are the last of the generation which still wrote actual letters and made calls to people on their telephones! Well telephones if us is still the good old fashioned landline.

Being a hybrid of the TV & the internet generation we are the ambitious lot and we don’t mind slogging it out to get what we think we deserve and we aim for the moon. The PlayStation generation which followed us is a different lot. The concept of physical activity was replaced by the PlayStation which has only kept evolved over the years to keep these kids indoors and play mindless games for hours together. No matter how much research funded by the manufactures claim that playing games improves one’s abilities, it can never ever replace the pure physical benefit which the generation of our kind are used to!

Kids can’t climb trees now and it has become a lost art! This is the generation which is used to fast food pop culture where things are good as long as it is “Cool” while the same generation has become too materialistic and what was a “want” a generation back is a “need”! The first time I got my mobile phone was after graduating from college! Mobile phone did exist but then the percentage of those who carried them was ultra-minority whereas today it is next to impossible to see a kid who does not have a mobile phone!

These very mobile phones as led to the “Facebook” generation where the kids have to led the world know everything and anything they do. We are also guilty to this but not to the extent of these kids. We were fascinated by Facebook and the various other social mediums but then we do belong to a generation and could be the last of the kind of the lot who had actually climbed a tree!

  1. I like the tags you have given this post. But I think as you mentioned about exceptions - maybe we need to pay attention only to those :D today's gen has it a little easy maybe but that still depends on economics to a large extent I feel .. not sure if all can afford a PS, still has affected the whole lot - agreed :)
